While passing through Canada Customs, one of the bags Hendrix offers to be searched contains what is believed to be an illicit substance. Hendrix is arrested and taken to police headquarters in downtown Toronto, where he is booked and later released on a $10,000 cash bail and required to make an appearance in court on May 5th. After his release, The Experience book into Four Seasons hotel and head directly to Maple Leaf Gardens to prepare for the evening performance. (The case eventually heads to trial with Hendrix being cleared of the charges following a "not guilty" verdict in the December proceedings.) Despite the events that transpired earlier that day, The Experience put on a spirited performance. "We want you to forget about today, about yesterday, and about tomorrow," explains Hendrix as he takes to the stage. "Tonight we're gonna create a whole new world," before launching into an incendiary version of the staple "Fire." The roughly 70-minute performance is highlighted by a superb performance of "Spanish Castle Magic" complete with touches of both "Third Stone From The Sun" and "Little Miss Lover" interwoven within the song's extended instrumental breaks. Hendrix also performed a rare, fascinating earlier live version of "Room Full Of Mirrors." Ritchie Yorke, who reviewed the concert for the May 4 issue of the Globe And Mail was moved to write, "... his guitar became the voice of the Rave New World. It screamed, hissed, and shrieked with the ferocity of a thousand dentist drills plunged into a single tooth." ℗ © 2013, Experience Hendrix, L.L.C., under exclusive license to Sony Music Entertainment. # # #
