Even to the extent that the MS society bought a domain name. ccsvi.ca to be used for what I politely consider to be "misinformation". The new treatment involves using a little balloon to open veins to let the blood flow away from the brain a little easier. 7 people were treated in Canada before the authorities decided to ban the treatment. 6 of 7 reported improvement and 1 stayed the same. That is a world class result because all those people were on MS drugs for years to help them, yet this treatment gave them an instant bonus relief after 1 surgery. Nobody knows exactly WHY it works. Or exactly why it works really well for some people, INCREDIBLY WELL ACTUALLY! and not so well for others. But the good doctors in the USA and other countries are amassing data, including much data from weary Canadians who are not allowed to have the surgery here and they ARE honing the procedures. Now they know which patients are most likely to have a good long term result, which will need another operation within 6 months and which patients they should turn away because their version of the disease will probably not respond. Our government has acted deplorably in all this. They have refused to monitor people who had the treatment (all the while complaining that there is "no data") and in some cases are refusing any aftercare to people who return from abroad! In Canada, medical care is free, and a years worth of MS drugs costs the government and taxpayers, $30,000 to $50,000 per patient. In British Columbia, a registry is in place, and it is being run by a doctor who is on the record as opposing CCSVI before he even got the registry job! How can this man be objective?
