Renowned DJ and producer Col Lawton makes a welcome return to Piston Recordings with his latest effort alongside fellow artist Sen-Sei entitled, ‘Magical Ride’. A key figure in the ever-evolving UK music scene, Col’s influence continues to grow, earning him respect from peers and fans alike. His early fascination with all kinds of music fuelled his journey into DJing, starting with intimate house parties supported by close friends. In the 2000s, he expanded his craft into music production, guided by the encouragement of his family. Always a pleasure having him on the label. Marking his Piston debut, Brooklyn based musician and producer Sen-Sei continues a fine run of recent collaborations with Col. Aside from top-notch house music productions, Sen-Sei brings a vibrant live performance to DJ booth, supporting DJ’s with live keys to enhance the crowd’s experience. Great to see him here and we hope to be hearing from both soon. ‘Magical Ride’ opens the release and pulses with a solid, punchy kick drum that lays the groundwork for an infectious groove. Shuffling hats and tribal-infused percussions add rhythmic flair, while soft melodic tones create a dreamy, atmospheric backdrop. A warm, plucky bassline glides smoothly underneath, providing depth and warmth, while cascading arp melodies dance through the mix. The inviting vocal flows effortlessly and is accented with cool vocal shots that punctuate the track, adding a touch of character. Closing out the release is ‘Music Makes You Feel’, delivering a lively, upbeat energy. Solid 909 kicks and rhythmic percussions set the stage for a smooth driving groove, while deep warm basses anchor the low-end. Rich piano chord stabs add depth and texture, complemented by warm pads that fill the sonic space.
