Juno Download: We are delighted to welcome Sonic Dust back to Piston Recordings with their latest release, ‘Subterfuge EP’. The Italian DJ and producer duo, Gerry Albano and Fabrizio Cusumano, have been collaborating for several years, driven by a passion for exploring and experimenting with sound. Their music seamlessly blends 90’s underground vibes with modern electronic elements, creating a distinct and immersive listening experience. Their expanding discography reflects their dedication to their craft, and we are excited to share their exceptional new music once again. We begin with the title track, ‘Subterfuge’ which intros with a nice chunky kick drum, crispy hi hat combo and modulating pad that hypnotises the senses. A sub-level bassline adds depth to the groove as flurries of rhythmic percussions layer up, creating a smooth dancey vibe. Bright, plucky synths liven up the groove with cosmic flair to deliver a dynamically charged dancefloor weapon. ‘DDT’ is up next, opening with a flurry of spritely percussions and punchy kick drums. Surreal, cinematic sequences unfold adding rich textures to the sound while an undulating bassline weaves through the low-end. Snazzy piano riffs add intrigue as they move through the spectrum, morphing and twisting to stimulate the mind. A solid late-night, trippy slice. ‘Quiet’ concludes the EP, introing with a rich soundscape that draws you in. Deep, gritty basses are joined by powerful kick drums and sharp percussions while a sweeping, airy pad creates warmth in the groove. Plucky, metallic sequences dominate on the break before the main groove returns for the duration.
