I thought it was a cover of a Rod Stewart song but thanks to Wikipedia I discovered it was originally written by Francis McPeake in Belfast, Northern Ireland and was based on a 19th century Scottish song "The Braes of Balquhither". It was first recorded by McPeake’s nephew in 1957. So if you’re in to listening to a dozen different versions of a song, as I apparently am, then here’s a playlist sorted by my preferences and ending with the original, rough, McPeake family recording at their home in Belfast.
