5 videos • 565 views • by Ray MAKES This is the first project on my homemade bowl lathe. project was turned Dec 2014 from a chunk destined for the fire. it was a beautiful piece of wild Cherry wood. sorry i don't have any video of the hollowing, i got carried away and forgot to film it. with this first project i identified a design flaw with the lathe: the second link arm on the articulated tool rest was WAY too long and would flex a tremendous amount under load. if you look carefully you can see it flexing and you can see me pulling on it to counter act the flex. at the beginning of the video you can see the arm length while I'm adjusting the tool rest. since then i have shortened it by 2/3 and reinforced the tool rest link arm. to see all the related videos on the homemade bowl lathe, click here https://youtu.be/TePa-hZ-I40?list=PLj... want to learn more about homemade lathes? check out the homemade lathe Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/homem...
