Woodturning Winged Off center Bowl - unedited videos

11 videos • 4,435 views • by Ray MAKES This is a 10 part series of videos of turning a winged, off center, crotch wood bowl on my home made lathe. The wood is maple with some spalting. turning speed is about 500 rpm. the bowl is 19" across but it is 5.5" off center so it swings 30". my lathe will safely swing 60" to the tool rest and 96" to the floor. this was a very interesting piece to turn and i hope you enjoy watching the series of videos documenting it. this little bowl (I'm just kidding of course) was a challenge but it was a good experience that ticked off a lot of boxes: wood bowl woodturning - yes off center bowl woodturning - yes winged bowl woodturning - yes large diameter bowl turning - yes dangerous woodturning - yes (although I'm not sure this is a goal) possible injury potential wood turning - yes and yes but again i don't think this is a goal bowl turning on a homemade lathe - i think you already know the answer to this I think most people watching are waiting for....the ACCIDENT!. there is something interesting about this series of videos; turners understand how dangerous it is, the uninitiated not so much. as for me...the danger kind of makes it more interesting...in a weird way if you would like to know more information about my lathe you can find that here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...
