Breaking For Gold DSSA South Africa Qualifiers 2021 Bboy & Bgirl Battles

Under highly challenging and far from ideal circumstances, we have managed to adjudicate and select the best Bboys and Bgirls to represent our country at the WDSF World Breaking Championships in Paris, France in December 2021. Our judges selected the top 16 in the BBoy category; Top 4 in the BGirl category and BGirl U/16 category; and Top 2 in the BBoy U/16 category. These breakers went head to head in online battles before we found our winners. The finalists in both the BGirl and BBoy category have qualified to represent South Africa at the WDSF World Breaking Championships taking place in Paris, France on 4th December 2021!! We as the Breaking Task Team would like to thank everyone for their participation in the DSSA Breaking For Gold 2021 event, a historic event in the story of Hip hop and Breaking in South Africa. ~ DSSA Breaking Task Team Information on the "Road To Paris 2024 Process In preparation for the WDSF World Breaking Championships, DanceSport South Africa (DSSA), the local WDSF member body, has been tasked with the function of hosting a National qualifier to select the male and female representatives for South Africa at the global event. To ensure the success of this process, DanceSport South Africa has created the “DSSA Breaking Task Team”, assembling members of our local breaking community to work closely with DSSA as facilitators and advisors. Ref Link: https://dancesportsa.co.za/road-to-pa... WDSF Breaking for Gold online qualifying athletes for South Africa battled head to head online between the 19th till the 30th of August. On December the 4th 2021, the World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF) will host the WDSF World Breaking Championships at Theatre de Chatelet in Paris, France. This will serve as an official qualifier event ahead of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 where Breaking will debut at the Games. "We are delighted the Fédération Francaise de Danse (FFD) will be organizing this prestigious event on the “Road to Paris 2024” in the French Capital. As everybody knows Paris will also be the host city of the first ever appearance of Breaking at the Olympic Games in just over 3 years." - https://www.worlddancesport.org/ This forms part of the qualifying events on the road leading to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Only the Open Category (16yrs & Over) age groups are eligible for the WDSF World Breaking Championships & the 2024 Olympic Games. Competitors in the Under 16 categories are however accruing points toward the DSSA (DanceSport SA) Youth Leader board. Brief overview of the Qualification process: The DSSA Breaking Task Team will facilitate the hosting of a South African National qualifier event, open to all competitors (over the age of 16) in a male and female category. This event will be endorsed by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) as the official qualifier event for the WDSF World Breaking Championships. Any competitor hoping to represent SA on the Olympic stage is required to qualify via the DSSA and SASCOC endorsed events. The top 2 male, and female competitors at the qualifier events will be issued with Protea Colours by DSSA, endorsed by SASCOC, and be eligible to represent South Africa at the WDSF World Breaking Championship events. The SA National representative will be competing against the best in the world at the WDSF World championships, where they will have a chance to earn WDSF World Breaking Championship ranking points and over the course of the next 3 years, earn points toward qualifying as a World Top 16 finalist who will represent their nations at the Summer Olympic Games in 2024. All qualifier events are subject to the local government restrictions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and may necessitate the use of an online qualification process. Details and Format of this online method of qualification will be disclosed, as and when necessary. Please note: DSSA Breaking for Gold National champions do not automatically qualify for the Olympics in 2024, as they need to follow the points scoring process at WDSF World Breaking Championship events over the course of the next 3 years in order to be the highest ranked competitor on the (African) continent to secure Olympic qualification.
