14 videos • 7,764 views • by by the cello online The Cello Online Beginner Cello Course is for any beginner starting out on the cello. In this 1st Module you will learn about setup. What is setup? When we talk about setup we are talking about posture and position at the instrument, the bow hold, the left hand shape and approach to the cello. Setup is all about how we sit at the cello and position our arms and hands for optimal performance and ease of movement. What will I learn in this Module? How to hold the cello and what the appropriate size of cello is for me, how to hold the cello bow, how the left hand should be shaped and the key points to remember when placing the let hand on the cello, and finally mistakes to avoid as a beginner cellist. The first video is titled cello size but it could just as easily be titled cello setup and position. They go so hand in hand that you can't talk about one without the other. Do I need to watch the whole thing at once? No, but it wouldn't hurt. 🤓 All of it is important. This is how we get into trouble at the cello, we try to think about too much at once. Yes you have to do ALL OF THIS STUFF!! 🤯 But.... you do NOT have to do it all at once, that's for sure. That is the beauty of learning online. Go at your own pace, watch what you need when you need and come back often. It takes lots of repetition, lots of reminders for this stuff to really sink in.
