Child-Centered Learning

There are many teachers who seem to feel that if a a class has lots of games, it must be child centered. I am a strong advocate of games-based learning, but, playing games often disguises the teacher-centered nature of a class. If a teacher models , demonstrates, or explains new language targets before the games, I think a class is still teacher centered. The children are still being treated as blank slates. In these videos, I will explore ideas for how to have a classroom learning environment where the children are exploring and discovering new language targets, 🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸 The ideas in these three videos are based on the theory in these four ' How Children Learn, videos: 🟧 How Children Learn 🔹How Children learn 1 Behaviorism https://youtu.be/SbE-lCXwnng 🔹How Children learn 2 Multiple intelligences, humanistic approaches, and mindset https://youtu.be/LLfCFC3r8Rw 🔹'How Children learn 3 Constructivism, Jean Piaget https://youtu.be/xV-meaYGj4U 🔹'How Children learn 4 An effective approach - George Kelly, Lev Vygotsky 🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸 I have been teaching and training teachers for forty years and thought it would be helpful to other teachers to make a series of videos where I can pass on some of the things I think I have learned. Some of the videos will be very theoretical and some will be very practical, but most will relate theory and practice and be underpinned by a constructivist student-centered approach. I became fascinated by constructivist psychology while at university nearly fifty years ago, especially by the work of George Kelly, and constructivist ideas have shaped my teaching and writing ever since. I am aiming to post videos to this YouTube channel once a week on Saturdays, and hope to cover a wide variety of topics related to teaching. I hope you will find the channel stimulating. 🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸 A few follow-up links: 🔹 Language Teaching Professionals https://ltprofessionals.com 🔹 Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/LanguageTeac... 🔹 David Paul on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/DavidPaul30/ 🔹 Twitter https://twitter.com/home 🔹 David Paul on Linkedin https://www.linkedin.com/in/languaget...
