Active Phonics

7 videos โ€ข 1,825 views โ€ข by Language Teaching Professionals In a series of five videos, I will introduce a child-centered approach to learning phonics that enables children to learn phonics quickly and deeply, and prepares children to move beyond phonics. I am calling this workshop โ€˜Active Phonicsโ€™, so as to contrast it with more knowledge-based approaches that tend to focus more on the details of phonics and on the knowledge of rules and sounds. The child-centered approach I am suggesting in these videos emphasizes the development of Childrenโ€™s skill in using phonics actively to make guesses when reading, writing, pronouncing words and discriminating sounds. ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ I have been teaching and training teachers for forty years and thought it would be helpful to other teachers to make a series of videos where I can pass on some of the things I think I have learned. Some of the videos will be very theoretical and some will be very practical, but most will relate theory and practice and be underpinned by a constructivist student-centered approach. I became fascinated by constructivist psychology while at university nearly fifty years ago, especially by the work of George Kelly, and constructivist ideas have shaped my teaching and writing ever since. I am aiming to post videos to this YouTube channel once a week on Saturdays, and hope to cover a wide variety of topics related to teaching. I hope you will find the channel stimulating. ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ๐Ÿ”ธ A few follow-up links: ๐Ÿ”น Language Teaching Professionals website https://ltprofessionals.com ๐Ÿ”น Facebook https://www.facebook.com/DavidPaul30/ ๐Ÿ”น Twitter https://twitter.com/home ๐Ÿ”น Linkedin https://www.linkedin.com/in/languaget... ๐Ÿ”น Language Teaching Professionals Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/LanguageTeac...
