I'd been avoiding playing Dungeons and Dragons for years, feeling like it was a nerdy bridge too far, so to speak, but once I finally took the plunge and started playing the game, (fun fact, my first time playing D&D was streamed! check out LGBT&D on Razz's Planetarium) I found that all these games amount to is a set of rules so you can play pretend with your pals, without the risk of "then I pull out a giant gun and explode everything!" ruining the fun. There's a lot of systems on display here, with a heavy focus on rules-light, improv friendly games, and if not that, something that really enables the building of worlds, which has always been my favorite part of storytelling. Long story short? If your d&d game misses a night, consider giving some of these games a shot! They tend to come up in itchio bundles every now and again, and are pretty cheap elsewise!
