Auxiliary batteries ran out of water, rendering us without electricity in parts of the boat. It took 45 minutes to troubleshoot and fix the problem, so we had to abort breakfast. We miscalculated the wind at the start, and missed the starting line. Rather than circle back, we chose to take the DNS (did not start) and kept sailing with the fleet. We radioed in and resigned as we passed on the wrong side of the committee boat. Wind has been good, and we’ve had a great sail across the bay today. Very relaxing, and no pressure to cross the finish line, so we took a direct line across the bay towards Norfolk, and are sailing into the Elizabeth River now. __ Captain of the ship Reacher, Bobby Bee and First Mate Michael Bee have once again entered the Annual Cape Charles Cup of 2023, a 2-day race across the Chesapeake Bay. Reacher and crew are racing in the Cruising Class and are solid contenders for the Honorary Title of Last Place. Reacher, a 1981 Pearson Cutter is a cruiser that delivers every time; from thin-water sailing to rough passages. Traditional lines, solid construction, a roomy 8-foot-long cockpit and walk-around decks are everything a sailboat should be. The Annual Leo Wardrup Memorial Cape Charles Cup is held on August 19-20, 2023. This 2-day distance racing event with its overnight destination of Cape Charles is unique to racing in the southern Bay. #sailboatlife #sailing #boatingseason #chesapeakebay #boats #boatinglife #boatinglifestyle #Chesapeakebay
