It was co-developed by Yuke's and Visual Concepts from WWE 2K14 until WWE 2K20, when Yuke's had left the development team (Yuke's was the sole developer of the games prior to 2K14). It is published by 2K Sports. The premise of each game in the series is to emulate the sport of professional wrestling, more specifically that of WWE, and present improvements over the previous installments. The games feature WWE match types, storylines and wrestlers. WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw is a professional wrestling video game released on the PlayStation 2 by THQ and developed by Yuke's. It is part of the WWE SmackDown vs. Raw (later renamed to WWE 2K) series (the first under the SmackDown vs. Raw name) and is based on the professional wrestling promotion World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), particularly the WWE brand extension. This game is the sequel to 2003's WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain and was succeeded in 2005 by WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006.
