Santa Monica Projects

Downtown Santa Monica's Placemaking director Jeremy Ferguson is creating a color design to complement the Shepherd Fairy Mural. While the barricades do their job to keep nefarious characters away, they add severe blight to the corner in front of the mural and opposite the Santa Monica Pier Sign. On Lincoln Blvd., the utility poles and boxes are being wrapped in Route 66-themed art in preparation for the 2026 Route 66 Centennial. Art in the Alleyways Instagram, a walkable feed of Art in the city, is built to be a valuable tool for visitors and locals alike. This Instagram Page highlights the project of a collection of walkable art installations in the alleys adjacent to the Third Street Promenade that began in 2018 and ceased being funded when COVID hit. We've had recent interest from new property owners on the Third Street Promenade, citing the @ArtInTheAlleyways Instagram Page as a determining factor when they heard the idea. We are currently seeking a willing property owner to host a Miripolsky mural. After meeting James DeWulf at Design Miami | LA, Jeremy is working on placing a sculpture of his creation: a carbon fiber/concrete chess board in a permanent location directly outside the Santa Monica Art Museum - Central Park Style, but with an Art Deco twist to tribute the architecture so popular in the city. A generous donor could make this a reality for the Santa Monica Chess Club. They play weekly on Sundays on the Third Street Promenade, made possible in part by our Block by Block Santa Monica Ambassadors, who set up and take down the chess tournament, put out chess pieces daily, and keep the area clean and safe with Legion Security walking the promenade 6am to 10pm: https://www.downtownsm.com/events-cal...
