iCON-VCH Indigenous Health Rounds

14 videos • 900 views • by UBC DigEM In response to the systemic racism against Indigenous peoples in the B.C. healthcare system, as highlighted in the report “In Plain Sight”, and resulting health disparities, iCON partnered with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) indigenous Health to improve cultural safety for Indigenous communities through the delivery of Indigenous Health Rounds. These health rounds serve as a platform to bring Indigenous voices to health care providers, policy makers and health administrators for knowledge sharing, dialogue and brainstorming solutions to combat racism and foster culturally safe health care settings for Indigenous patients and families. These 1.5hr health rounds provide audiences with the tools to better understand historical and current health care contexts, and to reflect on their own practices and how they could apply cultural safety knowledge and skills in the design and delivery of health care. None of this work is possible without the support of our key collaborators. Current funders include the Ministry of Health Patients as Partners Initiative and the Vancouver Physicians Staff Association. We also work with closely with Vancouver Coastal Health Indigenous Health, First Nations Health Authority, and Island Health. UBC iCON Indigenous website: https://indigenous.iconproject.org/
