Post-Secondary Education for CUAET Students
8 videos • 6 views • by Ukrainians in North York Press Conference: April 18, 2024, City Hall, Toronto, Canada Help Ukrainian Students Access Post-Secondary Education in Canada! Many Ukrainian newcomer students who fled war in Ukraine since February 2022 are approaching an affordability cliff as their non-refugee status under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) program does not allow them to access post-secondary education at domestic rates. This can mean a difference of over $20K per year. Some students have not even applied for school this year knowing the tuition is out of reach. Councillor Lily Cheng hosted the media conference to highlight this gap and to hear from Ukrainian high school students and graduates unable to pursue post-secondary education while in Canada awaiting the end of war in Ukraine. Joining Councillor Cheng will be Marijka Stadnyk, UCC Toronto, VP External Affairs; Helen Shumilova, Founder, Ukrainians in North York; Liza D. and additional Ukrainian high school students.
