SOME OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL HOMES I’VE COME ACROSS HAVE BEEN CONVERTED BARNS. In 1991, as a new agent in Westchester County, NY, I listed my first converted barn home. It was a massive 2-story barn that was partially open from the rustic wood floors on the main level all the way to the exposed rafters on the second level. A portion of the second story hayloft had been converted into 2 large bedrooms with windows that looked out over the meadows. On the opposite end of the hayloft, the owners had replaced the hayloft doors with huge stained-glass windows so that on a sunny day, as you entered the first floor main door, there was a prism of light dancing across the walls and floors on the main level. Converted Barn Homes feature tall ceilings, creating spacious rooms with abundant natural light. The airy atmosphere is perfect for entertaining or relaxation. Catwalks add an interesting view from up high, and lofted bedrooms or offices with large windows bring in natural light. The sheer size of a converted barn offers ample room to move around while maintaining a cozy ambiance. WHERE WILL YOU RUN ACROSS CONVERTED BARN HOMES? Country settings, like pastures and open spaces, are often where you'll find barn homes or barns waiting to be converted. They provide a safe and comfortable environment for horses and livestock with plenty of grazing space. The countryside offers beautiful views – rolling hills, vast forests, or tranquil meadows. Barn homes offer a unique blend of cozy and modern living. With careful planning, barn conversions become stunning spaces that embrace their rural surroundings. With these features and benefits in mind, it’s clear why converted barns are gaining popularity worldwide.
