Humans have squatted for years and it can build your overall brute strength as well as anything. We do power squats, reverse band squats, bar squats, squats with chains and more. We use the GHD and do glute ham raises as some of the most important accessory lifts. Just like most all other strongman exercises, proper form and correct technique is imperative to prevent injury and perform at a high level. Some of the weights we use are pretty heavy so during one-rep-max competitions we often wear squat suits which help stabilize your body and actually give a little bounce up from the down position. We perform different complimentary (or accessory) lifts on leg days and we get pretty creative and always try to optimize our results and prevent our routines from becoming ineffective and stale. Your glutes, hamstrings, hips and entire posterior chain need to be ultra-strong to squat at a world-class or world-record strongman level.
