Johann Mattheson: Die Wohlklingende Fingersprache

3 videos • 65 views • by The Digital Harpsichordist Johann Mattheson wrote this collection of fine fugues in the 1730s, and it is highly likely that J.S: Bach was aware of it. Could it be that Bach began his "Art of the Fugue" a few years later, after having been inspired by Mattheson's fugal efforts? I don't know, but I do know that Mattheson's work, though certainly not reaching the level of Bach, is one that should be much better known than it is, for it contains a lot of excellent music!
