Domenico Scarlatti: Parma Volume 1

8 videos • 122 views • by The Digital Harpsichordist Almost always, when larger groups of Scarlatti sonatas are presented, they are grouped according to the so-called "Kirkpatrick" numbers. But why not play them in the order in which they were copied in one of the volumes that was prepared during Scarlatti's lifetime? Could it not be that Scarlatti himself told the copyist in which order he would like to see the sonatas presented? This was the thought that inspired my decision to record the complete first volume of the "Parma" volumes, which were in fact copied out in Madrid later in Scarlatti's life. All works were played on a digital keyboard, using harpsichord samples. Note: the scores were not simply "scanned" and put into a DAW, but were actually played!
