2 videos • 51 views • by Fred Colombo The genesis of Spheric Universe Experience AmnesyA was my first progmetal/progrock cover band back in 2001-2002. In addition to covers, we wrote and demoed 2 songs in the vein of the classic 90s prog bands which used to influence us back then (Dream Theater, Symphony X, Vanden Plas, Regency). End of 2002, three members of the band - guitarist Vince Benaim, bassist John Drai and myself on keyboards - wanted to launch a full progmetal project playing original songs only, no more covers. So we parted ways with AmnesyA's vocalist Alexandre Boussacre and drummer Samuel Boulade, and started writing what would eventually become Spheric Universe Experience's debut album Mental Torments released in 2005. We hired a new vocalist and drummer and the rest belongs to the history of S.U.E.! AmnesyA can therefore be called the genesis of S.U.E. The 2 original songs that we wrote were never released. We didn't use them with S.U.E. They remained locked in a dusty MiniDisc demo for 20 years. Fast forward to 2021 - 20 years after we closed the AmnesyA chapter, I posted a video from an old tape of one of our 2001 local gigs on my personal Facebook page, which got the five of us from the original line-up to chat about that first band of ours and we ended up saying okay, let's reunite, dust off those 2 never-released songs, re-record them and finally release them as a celebration for the 20th anniversary! The goal here was to revisit two songs which we wrote as teenagers (damn, I was 17!), with the experience and know-how that we have now in our late 30s/early 40s. We didn't rewrite the songs at all - we played the exact same as the originals, only adding some mature touches here and there, to make them shine like brand new!
