Charles (Chuck) J. Meagher Law Hour
1 videos • 64 views • by Schulich Law Law Hour is a vital and valuable tradition at the Schulich School of Law. It has always been run by students who have used Law Hours as an opportunity to invite leaders from all areas of law, business, NGO, and public policy arenas to the School to talk with students, faculty, staff, and members of the university at large. In Chuck’s time at the Law School, he was intimately involved in the design and organization of Law Hour. His friends, family and colleagues, especially John Rogers and Daryl Fridhandler, believe this initiative reflects his commitment not only to the Law School but to legal education, students, and the community at large. Chuck was not only a proud graduate of the Dalhousie Law School in 1983 and President of the Law Students' Society in 1982/83, but he was a passionate champion of public service and community causes. Chuck left law for a brief time to work as a senior staffer in Ottawa for Hon. Bill McKnight, a Mulroney cabinet minister, and later was campaign manager for the Rt. Hon. Joe Clark in Calgary Centre in 2000. Chuck's community work with Calgary Legal Guidance, Chrysalis and Horizon Housing stand alongside his strong commitment to the Fort Calgary Preservation Society. During the time of his participation, Fort Calgary evolved from its humble origins to become a vibrant part of Calgary’s cultural scene. His loyalty to others was absolute and unshakeable and he brought compassion to all of his relationships. In 2013, in recognition of his public service, Chuck was inducted into the Bertha Wilson Honour Society at the Schulich School of Law.
