The show's main character, Dr. Gregory House, is portrayed by Hugh Laurie. House is a highly skilled but somewhat misanthropic and antisocial doctor who is also heavily reliant on painkillers. He leads a diagnostic team at a fictional teaching hospital named Princeton-Plainsboro, located in New Jersey. The initial concept for the show was developed by Paul Attanasio, while David Shore, the show's creator, played a major role in developing the character of House. The series' executive producers include Shore, Attanasio, their business partner Katie Jacobs, and film director Bryan Singer. Most of the show was filmed in Century City, Los Angeles.
