Bb Mixolydian Mini-Course

4 videos • 415 views • by Tao Of Twang Guitar Lessons Hi. This is another 3 part course on improvisation, this time featuring the Mixolydian form and sound. The Mixolydian scale is the same formula as a Major Scale with the 7th tone flatted (R 2 3 4 5 6 b7). This series uses Bb as the root so the notes are Bb C D Eb F G Ab. In fact, one main idea of the Twang Method is that we can have experiences making music before we begin analyzing the pertaining theory. In Pt 2 we alternate between the Mixolydian pattern provided in Pt 1 and the Minor Pentatonic Scale (also with Bb as the root note). This familiar scale adds a bluesy sound that compliments the more modal sounding Mixolydian. We close the series by experimenting with adding the Bb Major Pentatonic Scale into the mix and learning some basic neck position mapping and embellishments for style. If this sounds like a lot of elements, don't worry. Remember that you will pick up some of the skills and concepts right away and some will strengthen over time.
