Although developed and primarily championed by the artists, songwriters, musicians, and producers at the Motown Record Corporation in Detroit, Michigan, the Motown Sound was a major influence on pop and R&B music of the 1960s, and several non-Motown artists of the mid-1960s recorded in styles which approximated the Motown sound.
