Hey Mavis, Ann Arbor Summer Festival
11 videos • 70 views • by Dave’s TV Zone Hey Mavis came together when five highly talented musicians met at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park artists-in-residence program and created a blend of fresh sounding bluegrass and Appalachian inspired rock. They caught the ear of Adam Aijala of Yonder Mountain String Band who offered to be their producer, saying they have all the qualities he loves in a great band: “originality, solid musicianship, amazing vocals, and an openness to experimentation.” Over the past five years, Hey Mavis has grown a following in the Midwest, selling out seven consecutive shows in their hometown of Akron and making a recent appearance on NPR’s Mountain Stage. Their other producer Don Dixon, who’s worked with REM and Mary Chapin Carpenter, sums it up: “Wrapped in original songs whose styles range from old timey to jazzy to blistering alt rock, Laurie’s voice turns from cold steel to melted butter in the time it takes your heart to break.” This up-and-coming original bluegrass band makes their debut at Top of the Park.
