This week, our guest programmer is the big, the brutal, the best; BIGFOOT of 750 Rebels and Hired Goons crews. You haven't had a music education until you've shared a car ride with Bigfoot and his crazy-awesome CD collection (we speak from experience). He has kindly compiled some gems for us to bump to over the weekend, with a track-by-track too. Enjoy! Scarface "No Problem" Scarface is one of the greatest rappers of all time. I can't think of another MC who has maintained such a high calibre with every single release (Geto Boys or solo), in a vast catalog spanning from the 80's through to the present day. Never one to brag about material excesses or follow trends, Scarface's music has always been firmly rooted in reality & keeps him held in such high regard despite limited commercial exposure. His first solo release since 2008, "No Problem" has Scarface in fine form, having lost none of the fire that we've become accustomed to. Oh yeah...he was Upgrayedd the pimp in "Idiocracy" as well. Smif N Wessun feat. Junior Kelly "Born & Raised" From day one these guys have always had a reggae flavour in their music. They just dropped a whole EP of reggae joints called "Born & Raised" featuring living legend Junior Reid, Junior Kelly and a bunch of others. All proper reggae production, none of that Snoop Lion shit! This is dope. Three 6 Mafia (Da Mafia 6ix) "Beacon N Blender" It looks like Three 6 Mafia have opened up a drive-thru crack house! You like trap music? It's pretty much derived from styles that these guys have been building for decades. It's great to see most of the original members back in the fold on this one as well (Lord Infamous, Crunchy Black, Gangsta Boo, Koopsta Knicca). I love the creepy shrine room with the candles & TV that they have in there for Lord Infamous' verse. R.I.P. Killer Mike feat. Bun B, T.I. & Trouble "Big Beast" This is how video clips should be... Car chases, shoot outs, strip clubs, cannibalism, more gore than a zombie movie & a story line. Kind of like watching those 10 minute Michael Jackson clips back in the 80's only a whole lot more Trill! Killer Mike has lyrics for days & El-P's beats are incredible. Hearing some real Atlanta street rap over twisted, sample laden New York boom bap just works, it was a brilliant move putting those 2 together. Bun-B is one of the best to ever do it from the south (R.I.P. Pimp C) & T.I. is dope when he's spitting hard & not making weak ass pop songs. Stephen Marley feat. Sizzla & Capleton "Rock Stone" This doesn't look like an official video, but the track jams so hard that I had to put it in. Stephen Marley has always been a dope producer/multi-instrumentalist, having been behind the Melody Makers & a whole lot of other quality music. It's dope to hear him link up with these two legends as well. Fire! Goodie Mob "I'm Set" The first 2 Goodie Mob albums were amazing. Where did you think the phrase "Dirty South" came from?Everything after that has its moments of brilliance, but is generally a bit hit & miss. This video is severely twisted & kind of annoying, but dope at the same time....chaotic! Watching it makes me feel like I'm Johnny 5 from the "Short Circuit" movies having a meltdown & starting to attack people. Gunplay "Take This" It's funny how so many rappers from the USA claim to be pimps(and other things) when it would be exceedingly difficult to maintain the control of a stable of prostitutes whilst on tour around the world doing shows & performing the associated media obligations. The furry hats, walking sticks, stupid suits & encrusted cups are ridiculous. We've all driven through St Kilda & seen how it REALLY looks. I like how this bloke is not ashamed to look like a scumbag, driving a shitbucket of a car, with a busted broad in his own video clip. Trae Tha Truth feat. Z-Ro, Slim Thug, Bun B, Paul Wall & Kirko Bangz "I'm From Texas" This is an all-star line up of some H-town veterans. I love the mixture of old school sample chops & new school drum programming, this beat just cruises along nicely. Z-ro is a beast, Bun B always kills it, chopped & screwed hook. Killer. Brotha Lynch Hung "Meat Cleaver" Lynch has been putting out underground classics out of Sacramento for a long time. He signed to Tech N9ne's Strange label a few years ago & dropped a trio of albums with a serial killer theme "Dinner & a Movie", "Coathanga Strangla" & "Mannibalector". Most of these songs were produced by a white bloke named Seven & the beats are sick. I read a review of this album in local calling him an Eminem rip-off...kind of funny when this guy's had that same style for 25+ years!. Perfect music to bump when you're chillin' with a ladyfriend or about to hit the town. Run the Jewels "A Christmas F*cking Miracle" Killer Mike & El-P again. This album was incredible.
