Anteaters And Baby

14 videos • 2 views • by AnimalShenanigansHQ This is the first time trying to see the baby anteater from the Dudley zoo in England. Anteaters (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) are nocturnal around humans (diurnal) , so they are difficult to film when they are awake. The staff discovered the baby on the 17th of January 2022, so now it's about 3 months old when filmed. Mother Lyra is hiding her baby under her tail which she moves occasionally so we can catch a glimpse, but then we see the little one. His head just poked out from under her tail. Oh, what a cutie he is. I say he, but he hasn't been sexed yet, so it might be a she. Look at those big feet and him having a dig in the mud. He's fully out a bit later, giving mum a cuddle. The baby's dad is in the back, he's called Bubbles. There is a big outdoors with a pool and wooden area. Just a bit cold out there at the moment. So they are snuggling up inside. Fun facts, did you know Giant anteaters have no teeth? It eats fast, flicking its tongue up to 150 times per minute. Anteaters spend only a few minutes eating at anthills as they don't want to destroy the nest so they can come back later to eat some more.
