Comparing Groups on a Quantitative Response Variable

19 videos • 127 views • by Fourth Z There are two research situations in which we will want to compare groups: an experiment in which we assign participants to various conditions (perhaps a control group and several treatment conditions) or an observational study in which we want to make comparisons among pre-existing groups. In each situation we can use multiple linear regression to help us determine treatment effects and group differences. Researchers often refer to the use of multiple regression in this situation as "analysis of variance," though the distinction does not make much sense because we analyzed variance when the explanatory variables were quantitative, just as we will do when the explanatory variable is categorical. Further, as you will see, what you learned in past videos about multiple linear regression with quantitative variables will be applicable in this groups setting, as well.
