The first avatar is Matsya, where Vishnu took the form of a fish to save the Vedas during a great deluge. The second avatar is Kurma, in which he assumed the form of a tortoise to support Mount Mandara during the churning of the ocean. In the third avatar, Varaha, he took the form of a boar to rescue the Earth from the demon Hiranyaksha. The fourth avatar, Narasimha, saw Vishnu as a half-man, half-lion to slay the demon Hiranyakashipu. In the fifth avatar, Vamana, he appeared as a dwarf Brahmin to subdue King Bali by measuring the earth, sky, and underworld in three steps. The sixth avatar, Parashurama, had Vishnu as a warrior with an axe who cleansed the earth of corrupt Kshatriya rulers. In the seventh avatar, Rama, he manifested as the ideal prince of Ayodhya, who defeated the demon king Ravana to uphold dharma. The eighth avatar, Krishna, played a crucial role in the Mahabharata war and imparted the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita. The ninth avatar, Buddha, taught the principles of non-violence and enlightenment, countering ignorance and superstition. The tenth avatar, Kalki, is prophesied to appear in the future as a warrior on a horse to end the age of darkness and restore righteousness. दशावतार (Dashavatara) हिंदू धर्म में भगवान विष्णु के दस प्रमुख अवतारों का वर्णन करता है, जिन्हें उन्होंने संसार की रक्षा और अधर्म के विनाश के लिए धारण किया था। इन अवतारों की सूची में पहला अवतार मत्स्य है, जिसमें भगवान विष्णु ने मछली का रूप धारण कर प्रलय के समय वेदों की रक्षा की। दूसरा अवतार कूर्म है, जिसमें उन्होंने कछुए का रूप धारण कर समुद्र मंथन के समय मंदराचल पर्वत को संतुलित किया। तीसरे अवतार वराह में, उन्होंने सूअर का रूप लेकर पृथ्वी को राक्षस हिरण्याक्ष से बचाया। चौथे अवतार नरसिंह में, भगवान विष्णु ने आधे मनुष्य और आधे सिंह का रूप धारण कर राक्षस हिरण्यकशिपु का वध किया। पाँचवें अवतार वामन में, उन्होंने एक बौने ब्राह्मण का रूप धारण कर राजा बलि से तीन पग में पृथ्वी, आकाश और पाताल को नापा। छठे अवतार परशुराम में, भगवान विष्णु ने एक योद्धा का रूप धारण कर पृथ्वी को अत्याचारी क्षत्रियों से मुक्त किया। सातवें अवतार राम में, उन्होंने आदर्श राजा के रूप में रावण का वध कर धर्म की स्थापना की। आठवें अवतार कृष्ण में, उन्होंने महाभारत युद्ध के माध्यम से धर्म की पुनर्स्थापना की और गीता का उपदेश दिया। नौवें अवतार बुद्ध में, उन्होंने अज्ञानता और अंधविश्वास के खिलाफ शिक्षा और अहिंसा का प्रचार किया। दसवां अवतार कल्कि है, जिसमें भविष्य में भगवान विष्णु अश्वारोही योद्धा के रूप में प्रकट होकर अधर्म का अंत करेंगे।
