Inspiration for this album was pooled from an array of disparate sources; minimalist trailblazer Steve Reich, The Dead Weather and surrealist Japanese cinema all had a profound effect on the record's genesis and long, contemplative walks in the woods helped the pair to gain clarity and perspective. "We both write in our own studio but we like to go fetch ideas either by the Mediterranean, or in a forest cottage in Finland by a lake, or in an animated cafe in the heart of a big city," explains Olivia. The Dø worked together on every step of the album, from composing and recording to arranging and mixing, with multi-instrumentalist Dan taking turns on sax, piano, harpsichord and trumpet to name but a few. Produced by the pair in their Paris studio, the result is a spellbinding mixture of primal rhythms and shimmering pop appeal, all punctuated by Olivia Merilahti's unforgettable voice. "We're trying to find something new from one song to the next; create a new setting and a new story,".
