5 videos • 262 views • by davidhertzberg1 The Austrian conductor Josef Krips (1902-1974) leads the London Symphony Orchestra in this 1960 performance (in London) of Beethoven's fifth symphony in C minor, Op. 67. This LP is part of a 8-LP set (in monaural), produced by Everest Records, a label based in Bayside, Long Island started by Harry D. Belock and Bert Whyte in May 1958 and which was devoted to classical music. The boxed collection is numbered LPBR 6065/8. This recording was made directly from the LP. First movement: Allegro con brio Second movement: Andante con moto Third movement: Scherzo. Allegro Fourth movement: Allegro In 1960, Krips recorded Beethoven's nine symphonies for Everest Records. For this set of recordings, Krips conducted the London Symphony Orchestra, and for the Beethoven Symphony No. 9, the soloists included Donald Bell, baritone, Jennifer Vyvyan, soprano, Rudolf Petrak, tenor, and Shirley Carter (later known as Shirley Verrett), mezzo soprano. The BBC Chorus, under the chorusmaster Leslie Woodgate also performed in this recording of the 9th symphony.
