In the '60s and '70s Perry helped create and bring to the world's attention the chugging beats and pulsing rhythms of dub and reggae music. And in his almost mythical Black Ark studio, Perry launched the sounds of Bob Marley & the Wailers, the Heptones, and Max Romeo. With the simple recording equipment available to him, Lee "Scratch" Perry made a sonic innovator of himself, becoming reggae's premier record producer through analogue alchemy and unending experimentation. Rolling Stone hailed Perry as "the first mad-scientist producer" and Blender named the epic musician one of their Top 50 Rock Geniuses of All Time. As the first reggae producer to utilize drum machines and phasers it's easy to see how even today Lee "Scratch" Perry keeps his music ahead of the times and his ears tuned to the future. 1/15/2008-- The upcoming Lee Scratch Perry album "Repentance" (w/Andrew W.K.
