Created for the Smithsonian Folklife Festival's Brazil in DC initiative. Sonia Pessoa was born and raised in Salvador, Bahia in Brazil, and now resides in Washington, D.C. In addition to being a licensed dietician and nutritionist, she is a samba dancer and the founder and director of D.C.'s annual Afro-Bahian Festival.
