MediaArtTube Exhibition 1.1 - Mirror Interfaces

34 videos • 3,801 views • by MediaArtTube The main potential of interactive media art is the ability to reflect the participant's action. There is a dynamic relationship between art work participant (or man-machine) which indicates a transformation not only in the states of the art work but in the cognitive state of the participant. Mirror interfaces are technologies which emphasise the mirror characteristic of interaction and produce an artistic meaning based on the aesthetics of self-reflection. These art works often work with the full body as the interface which produces immersive experience. In these experiences the participants entity is expanded or disembodied through the visual responses on the screen or other mechanical/robotic devices. One of the earliest interactive media art works: Myron Kruegers Videoplace (1972) has already explored the idea of mirroring allowing the participants to interact with a visual self. Since then the variety of interfaces and their aesthetic statement has been greatly inflated with outcomes in engaging visualisations, data representations or robotic interfaces. The MediaArtTube Exhibition 1.1 presents a collection of significant art works exploring the topic of mirrored Identities and self-reflective interfaces.
