40 videos • 9,794 views • by Joseph Passadena Wes Montgomery was highly influential on Joe's development as a guitarist (and every other jazz guitarist in the bebop/post-bebop era); Joe often praised Wes' innovation and musicianship in interviews, and modeled his lines/phrasing after Wes (especially early in his career). Continuing with my series on comparisons/contrasts... I've picked several tracks from my Wes Montgomery collection to go "head-to-head" against Joe's tracks, as an exploration of style/composition (rather than competition). The tracks are mostly well known standards, and are paired together, alternating between Wes and Joe. The playlist was supposed to be much longer, but half of the songs were blocked worldwide (grrr). A few of the later tracks are also prohibited in certain regions (sorry!)
