Here he joins forces with Swedish producer EMPHI for a classy outing of proper progressive which doubles as both their Balance Music debut. A fresh morning glow imbues ‘Hallen’. The percussion is crisp, sizzling with vibrant urgency, complemented by a gentle bottom end. Above it all, hoisted high in the sky, hangs a mist, a clearing fog filled with reverb carrying wonderful sounds. From deep within that mist, the rising tone of an expectant synth materialises. It promotes unity and joy, offering warm comfort after a long night. With ‘Hekla,’ we progress towards the moment the sun sets. The minor keys create a more mysterious force, suggesting deeper introspection. The drums are sturdier yet inviting, made more hypnotic by the rhythmic shift of the bass throb. A syncopated wood block vibrates, serving as a starting point for classic synth sounds to emerge. During the breakdown, a vocal sample is introduced, offering prudent, reflective advice.
