Spahn's Movie and Horse Ranch Chatsworth

In exchange for lodging, Manson's family, particularly his female followers, agreed to assist in maintaining the expansive Spahn Ranch property and attending to Spahn's needs. Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme was designated as Spahn's "eyes" and, in essence, his de facto wife. The community, consisting of around 13 women, five men, and numerous visitors, attracted minimal attention in the vicinity. According to a Chatsworth census taker, the ranch was described as "a place of Indian trails, boulders, rotten roads, and individuals whose names in the register bore annotations such as ‘he carries a gun,’ ‘don't approach suddenly,’ and ‘very fierce dog.’” This group was not the first cult to inhabit the region. In the 1940s and 1950s, the Fountain of the World, led by a charismatic figure named Krishna Venta, established a "monastery" in nearby Box Canyon. Charles Manson reportedly spent time at the monastery, either before or after disgruntled ex-members destroyed most of it in 1958, resulting in the deaths of Venta and seven others. Spahn Ranch evolved into Manson's dominion. It was here that its said that he indoctrinated his followers through a series of acid trips, obligatory orgies, and hypnotic, repetitive lectures detailing his vision of "Helter Skelter," the race war he was determined to incite. In Manson's envisioned scenario, named after a song from the Beatles’s White Album, the black population would engage in a conflict with the white population. During the imagined "Helter Skelter," Manson and his followers would be concealed deep underground in a hole he claimed to have discovered in the desert. Following a virtual Armageddon, the victorious black population would struggle to govern wisely. At that point, Manson's family would emerge from the underground refuge, traverse the desert in specially designed dune buggies, and establish dominance over the remaining global population. The desolate terrain at Spahn Ranch provided an ideal setting for the construction and racing of dune buggies, dismantling stolen cars, and engaging in target practice along the creek bed. Susan Atkins, a convicted killer, later described the atmosphere, stating, "We were akin to woodland spirits and creatures. Roaming through the woods with flowers adorning our hair, Charlie the pied piper leading the way without the small flute." #SpahnRanchAdventures #DuneBuggyThrills #DesolateBeauty #WoodlandSpirits #CreekBedShooting #AlternativeLifestyle #FreeSpiritLiving #CharlieMansonEra #backporchtapes #bpt #mansonfamily
