First used in 1987, the VTR could store uncompressed 1920x1035i video for a raw bitrate of 1.2 Gbps. Up to 8 channels of uncompressed 48kHz PCM audio was stored in a linear fashion (using Sony's DASH technology) and could be listened to during shuttling & inserts could be seamlessly performed.
