In 1886 the Triumph Cycle Co Ltd, was started, followed by in house manufacturing in 1889. In 1898 the Triumph Motorcycle co was started, with first motorbike produced in 1902. A Car Company was started in 1921, with first production model in 1923. The Triumph Motor Car marque is owned by BMW of Germany. Rumours of the outgoing BMW 1, 3 and 5 Series being rebodied as Triumph's. Also new Spitfire, TR and Stag, using the running gear (Engine, Gearbox and Transaxles) of BMW 2, 4 and 6 Series models, appear to be just that. BMW, did produce a Triumph "TR" prototype (photos of which were released by Auto Express Magazine in October 2007). In 2023, the British Engineering and Design House, Makkina, released the all electric TR25 concept, based on BMW parts. BMW has now authorised the release of this retro styled (based on the 1953, Jebbeke, Belgium, Triumph TR2, which took the speed record for under 2 litres).
