This acoustic version of Dysmorphia comprises of vocals and piano only. For a long time, I've really wanted to take some of my heavily electronic sounding songs and strip them back to their simplest forms. While it started out as a bit of experimentation, I liked the sound so much I decided to make an EP. I started out back in 2009 with just a piano and vocals, so it was quite nostalgic and freeing to go back to this format.

I did try to remain gender neutral and inclusive when re-recording this song as acoustic, but it didn't flow right, and the inspiration behind the lyrics was always intended to be what I'd imagine my own dysmorphic/anorexic voice would say speaking to my younger self, who is female. Please note that the acoustic version of Girl Within The Ghost has been made gender neutral (Soul Within The Ghost).

If you have any recommendations for future acoustic versions of any of my songs, please feel free to suggest them in the comments below!

Lyrics:

Mirror, mirror, my eyes see,
What her mind wants me to see,
Dysmorphic vision, no beauty,
But I feel my bones protrude from me.
Mirror, mirror, haunting me,
Embrace the sickness on my knees,
Mirror, mirror, you're to blame,
For dark distortions in your frame.

Mirror, mirror, hide her bones,
Morph her figure, from her own,
Mirror, mirror, show her pain,
Reflect the poisons in her veins.
Mirror, mirror, show her how,
To swallow guilt and hold her vow,
Show her all illusory,
And make her crawl back into me.

Lives the inner disorder.

Calm your breathing, troubled soul,
You needn't whisper anymore,
Scream my name and I'll be there,
Behind your cold dysmorphic stare.
Trapped within, the shards of glass,
Mind games at play, right to the last,
Don't try to ignore it,
Your life grown so distorted.
