The Ocean Beneath the Sea is a mystery to me. Feels like this channel's music emanated from somewhere near there. What is music anyway? Jayda whispered, "visual art can't been seen with the eyeball." Which made me think, "in the same way, music isn't heard with the ear. The actual music isn't even sound. Sound is a vehicle for the music; like a symbol is the vehicle for its connotations." Kieth Richard may have said it best talking about the process of composing music, "The song is already there. Uncover it." Even "sheet music" with notes and staffs and time signatures and keys defined, is not the music; it's a description.
When singing four part harmonies in a stage musical, I learned: there can be no leader, and no followers. Each singer must feel the image of the music, see its shape clearly, especially the edges. Each must hear the pitches of the others; but then let their body belt out their own pitch, without aiming it, by feeling it. What if a society could live this way?
