As a Dutch teacher at a secondary school in the Netherlands, I’ve seen a lot. In my lessons there is plenty of room for the personal development of my students.
The teenagers from my multicultural class share their joys and sorrows, they get into mischief with the teacher, skip school or come in late. They have to deal with bullying, arguments, and sometimes even fights.
As a teacher, I try to create a safe haven for my students, a place where they’re allowed to make mistakes, where they can laugh and cry. But there is no room for racism or discrimination. Because above all, we respect each other.
