On December 18, 2017, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Thankfully the tests that followed showed no signs of the cancer spreading outside of the prostate. I have decided to have surgery to remove the source of the cancer reducing the chances of re-occurrence I met with the surgeon and decided to push the procedure out by a few weeks to give me some time to come terms with everything that comes next, but I also wanted to run at least one more marathon. On February 18th, I will be running the Austin marathon for the LIVESTRONG Foundation. My hope is to turn my diagnosis into something positive by raising money and awareness for other families fighting this disease.
After the marathon, I will tackle the next phase with surgery scheduled for February 21st. My plan is to be fully recovered within the year so that I can be out on the Austin marathon course for next year’s race, this time running as a cancer survivor. I am sharing my story now in hopes that it can help someone else
