【What does "Modern Nadeshiko" mean?】
Modern Nadeshiko is a new category created to refer to Japanese women leading unconventional lives in comparison to those who hold traditional values of Japanese culture.
Nadeshiko (Yamato Nadeshiko):
(Yamato) Nadeshiko refers to traditional ideal women being cautious, restrained, inconspicuous, and without a strong self-assertion. They have essential education, ethics, and character that they can help men to guard the family with their strong side in case of an emergency.
Modern Nadeshiko:
By adding the word "modern," we are hoping to make changes in the understanding of and the expectations for real Japanese women in the modern time. Modern Nadeshiko are those who don't shy away from sharing their thoughts and ideas, make unconventional life choices, and choose to be more open and free.
