I'm DC Panda Girl and as you may have guessed from the name, I'm obsessed with the giant pandas at the Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington, DC. But for me, it's more than an obsession over how cute they are (although that is definitely part of it). It's also about conservation. Pandas are a beautiful and unique species and they face many challenges. While they are not considered endangered anymore, thanks to some of the truly impactful conservation research done by zoos and scientists, they are still classified as "vulnerable" and thus, still need our help. It all begins with education and learning about what makes these animals so special and why we must continue fighting to conserve them. I hope that by posting videos of the National Zoo's panda cub, Xiao Qi Ji, and his parents, I can help raise awareness and help others fall in love with them just as I have.
