Hey guys, just want to keep y'all in the loop. Our team has been talking with YouTube support for some time now about the views issue, and here's what they've said so far (and our response). Do any of y'all have any ideas? Is our team missing something?

WHAT THEY SAID:

Hi Susan,

Thanks for your response. This is Amanda stepping in for the team.

We really appreciate you keeping track of your channel performance. I know having a good view count is important for your channel growth.

Based on the data I have gathered on your channel's performance this year, I’m not seeing any unusual downward trend in your channel's impressions and watch time. This change looks to be in line with fluctuations your channel sees over time.

What you're seeing is not a drop in views. It just so happens that you had dramatic spikes in views that made it look like your channel’s performance dropped after these spikes. The views you're getting now is within the average view count that your channel had been getting before the spike.

Looking closer, the top 5 outlier videos on this link caused the dramatic spike in views. These videos resonated well with your audience. You may want to check this video and see what you have done well and apply it to the future videos you are going to create.

When these outlier videos reached their steady-state in the second week of April this has impacted the channel performance and caused a gradual decline in your impressions, views, and watch time since then as you can see on channel performance spikes.

As your videos become more popular, they may get shown to a wider audience, and you may get more impressions. Since this audience may extend beyond your core viewers, your views may be lower, but don’t worry, you may still see an increase in overall views and watch time.

To get a better idea of how these things work, here are some helpful articles I found on our Help Center.

Measure your video reaches on YouTube
Understanding your video reaches on YouTube
Tips for using impressions & CTR data
Overall, your channel is working as it should be. If you see a decline in its performance, it may mainly be due to the contributing factors I mentioned above. I hope you'll be able to work on these.

I understand this is a bit lengthy, feel free to respond to this thread if you have any further questions or come across any difficulties. I'd be more than willing to walk you through this.

All the best,

OUR RESPONSE:

The outlier videos are lives. The lives are fun, we enjoy them and our team is grateful for the great viewership we are getting, BUT THEY DO NOT PAY MONEY. We need MONEY. We want our LONG-FORM videos to be getting views, and it is NOT normal to be getting such a low view count on those long-form videos, nor even remotely within a typical normal distribution. The algorithm definitely has done something weird with our channel, and we need help to fix it; it's not something we can fix on our end--YOU GUYS have to fix it. This is why I'm talking to you.

I repeat, while we are grateful for the success of our lives, the LONG-FORM videos are what we need to succeed. I can give you countless examples of other channels that are our size or smaller that get 5-10 THOUSAND views per long-form video with ease. Our channel is getting the same number of long-form video views as a BRAND-NEW CHANNEL. I can, in fact, even prove THAT to you. Look at the link below:

Video Poker Bonanza!!! (youtube.com/)

This is not equitable, it is not fair, and it is not what we desire. We want LONG-FORM VIDEO views. And, really, it's a simple fix. Just put our videos in front of people! Those people will click on our videos much more regularly, and not only will we make money, but SO WILL YOUTUBE. People want to see our content, but YouTube is not putting it in front of people.

I repeat, impressions is NOT something we can control on our end. YOU GUYS need to fix that. All we can do is improve our click-through rate (which is very good at the moment), improve our watch time (which is decent at the moment), and make decent and consistent content (which we do). Therefore, YOU GUYS have to fix the impressions issue, NOT US.

Thank you for your patience talking to me on this problem, but I must say, if you personally cannot discern a way to broach this issue, then please send the issue up the chain--it is not a typical FAQ boilerplate response. No doubt, someone in some type of executive position has hatched some type of viewership strategy that has led to an update to the algorithm that put us in this difficult, unfair, and UNPAYING position. We can't keep making quality content if we're not paid.

I'm not beating around the bush; I am being frank with you. This is a CRITICAL problem for our channel that NEEDS to be fixed.

Let me try to highlight it a bit more here: Our lives often get hundreds of thousands of views (1x10^5 views), but our longs get a hundred normally (1x10^2)--not a hundred thousand; ONE HUNDRED. We're literally getting 1,000X THE VIEWS on our lives. Compare this to other large YouTube channels in our niche, and they also get millions of live views, but additionally hundreds of thousands of long-form views. In other words, the disparity is only around 10x. Why is our disparity 1,000x or even 10,000x???

-Soupy7slots+ team

In summary, I'm showing y'all this because our team is at its wits end; we plainly don't know what to do, and so we are talking to all of you, our thousands of amazing subscribers. We originally said to you that we were semi-throwing in the towel with regards to trying to figure out the problem, and that remains the case mostly, but poking around is still something our team has bandwidth to do. So, please enlighten us if you have read this far into this post hah! What do you think?

Oh, I forgot to mention, I'm also considering reducing the number of shorts we post per day. Let me know if y'all have any thoughts on that! Thanks!

Happy Sunday everyone!

Just wanted to give you all an update on the "poking around" situation with our channel to see why our long-form videos aren't getting the number of views they should be...

So, it appears that there really is nothing that we can do on our end to fix it; for some reason that is beyond our ability to control, YouTube's algorithm has seen fit to give us less than 1% of our subscription base as views on average for each of the videos. We have spoken with them at length about this, and it doesn't look like it's going to change any time soon.

So, all of that being said to let you guys know... That we're going to go back to our original posting schedule of 1 long-form video per day, THOUGH, they're probably going to be significantly longer than before. We also did a little dabbling in premiers to see if that made a difference, and while it did a little bit, it would be better for us to make it obvious to YouTube that something is wrong rather than make a near-negligible change to the view count on said videos. That way, even if YouTube refuses to help us out and fix the issue, at least YOU GUYS will be able to see it, and that's really what matters.

As always, this channel and our journey with it has been to have fun and allow you guys to come along with us as we did. My mom laid in bed every day before starting this channel just waiting for the Grim Reaper, feeling that she had nothing else left to offer this world, like she had done everything she had needed to do. This channel gave her new life, and in that alone, it has truly been a blessing beyond measure. And while the extra income would make a world of difference for us in terms of our ability to fully accomplish everything that we still seek to accomplish, we know that even now it is secondary.

Therefore, it is in the YouTube gods' hands, and we'll leave it at that. We want to thank you all, with the highest level of love and gratitude that we could possibly proffer up to you for the new lease on life that your companionship and enjoyment has provided us! We love you all!

Hey guys!

So, we're still poking around in our team's efforts to determine how to provide you all the very best content possible that is both enjoyable and fulfilling. Ultimately, whether the algo treats us well or not, what it comes down to, is you guys. All of you, the audience, make the channel.

I wanted to let you all know that we appreciate you all!

More changes to come, however, and please give us any feedback you can that will allow us to give you exactly what you're looking for when you come to spend your time with us!

Thanks!

Hey team!

Wanted to keep you updated in our team's efforts to figure out why our long-form videos aren't getting views. What it comes down to is that we're not getting what are called "impressions" on the videos, which means that YouTube isn't even showing the videos to audiences. Our team is in talks with YouTube to figure out why this is, and if there is anything we can do about it, but so far, we haven't figured anything out (at least that we haven't already tried, or that we didn't already know).

So, with that being said, do any of you have any novel ideas for us to try? We're willing to try any reasonable thing, to "throw the kitchen sink" at this in order to fix it. So any and all suggestions are appreciated, but especially the ones that might seem a bit off-the-wall, because we've tried all the "cookie-cutter" ones.

Thanks guys, love y'all!!

Soupy's team.
