Nakoda Elementary School (NES) is a kindergarten to grade 5 First Nations community school located in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, west of Calgary, Alberta in the community of Morley. At NES we believe in the value of music and culture and explore how one supports the other.
First Nations culture is apart of the Canadian narrative. It exists in a cultural fabric we all share. Within our music program we attempt to explore and nurture this concept by weaving our Stoney/Nakoda culture into all types of music. The results are projects that create bridges between First Nations people and Non-First Nations Canadians with the hopes of highlighting the rewards of sharing, listening, inclusion...and, most importantly, the value of having fun TOGETHER.
