Dear YouTube-Google management:
Please--I refuse to beg--Stop 'improving,' 'enhancing' YouTube's site design and user experience.
Beyond its core search function, do you know why Google's search engine page is so successful? It's an easy, user friendly, familiar layout that hasn't actually driven people away from the site over the years.
The new layout of YouTube is unbelievably awful--and I'm being generous. If YouTube management insists on the new layout, how about letting users choose between the old format or the new one as their default.
Second, forget the thumbs up/down ratings system--after all, it's possible to rate a video something other than a one or five. Furthermore, you now can't easily see the ratings your own videos have received within the "My Videos" viewing window--annoying to say the least.
Third, bring back threaded views of conversations so that they make sense and can be followed. Also, instead of automatically sorting user comments by rating, etc., leave those features as an optional link--just like the now removed "text comments" link let users sort out objectionable words.
Fourth, here are some improvements to YouTube that would actually matter: Why not concentrate on video processing quality, streaming performance, and it would be most helpful if YouTube had more compatibility with popular audio and video codecs. Often a video looks and sounds fine on the video makers machine, but after YouTube processes the video they discover that the audio is out of sync with the video and/or the rendering quality is disappointing.
Also, up until late last year, a video that had stereo audio when it was uploaded would have stereo at all resolutions after processing--now it's mono at 360p, what's the point of this?
So, if you've read this far, I thank you. I have to believe there are other users who agree with some or all of the areas of contention that I've laid out above. One has to wonder if the YouTube community is just going shrug their shoulders and be force fed changes that are driving viewers/users away from YouTube. At some point, and it's already here according to some, YouTube is going to be good for nothing other than hosting videos for embedding--is this the goal?
Oops,
